What Should I Do If I Suspect a Friend or Loved One Is Using Heroin?

Last updated: Friday, 21, August 2020

If you suspect a friend or loved one is using heroin, an intervention is a good way to encourage them to seek out heroin addiction treatment. Heroin rehab can be a difficult place to go, and addicts are notoriously good at convincing themselves that they do not need treatment. However, heroin abuse is very serious, and should not be taken lightly.

An intervention is a way of approaching an individual and convincing him or her to seek professional help for his or her problem. Interventions are often done by an individual's family and friends. These people gather and prepare letters to the addict about the ways in which the addict's problem affects them. They then read these letters to the addict, hoping to convince the addict to check him or herself into heroin addiction treatment. This type of intervention is controversial in some ways but has been very effective in getting addicts into treatment in the past.
